With a little luck I’ll be out of town the next two weeks and the very able farm crew will be running the show! Here’s what Tiiu and I talked about having in the shares for the next two weeks while I’m gone. Next week we should have more summer squash, cucumbers, lettuce, green onions, new potatoes, and basil. There’s a small possibility there might be chard but it’s not looking great with the heat we’ve been having so that’ll be a last minute decision. Typically we take a break from chard, kale and collards this time of year for that exact reason. There may be some more fresh beans on the farm stand. I know I said the last round of green onions was it for the year, but we ended up having more than I thought so one more round.
In two weeks we should have more of the summer squash, cucumbers, lettuce, and gold beets. Fresh sweet onions will make their first appearance. We’re hoping that the first tomatoes might also be ready, as well as the first of the romano beans. We were hoping to have carrots, but those will have to wait until I get back as they’re sizing up slowly with heavy weed pressure.
This week there was a big planting and greenhouse seeding push in preparation for the fall crops. The next two weeks the crew will concentrate on harvesting, weeding, and keeping the crops watered while I’m away. Tiiu will be sending me updates to pass along via the wonders of the World Wide Web!
