For today’s first summer share we have chard, turnips, romaine, carrots, beets, summer squash, and fennel. The colors of our chard always make me happy, and the smell of the fennel while I was harvesting was making think a nice fresh fennel salad would be an excellent right now with the warm weather. The greens on the fennel, beets and turnips are not only edible, but also delicious. The fennel greens are good in salads, dressings, or cooked. The other greens are best cooked. All of the roots in the share got a bit overwhelmed with weeds so they’re on the small side, but still very tasty.

The you pick garden has a few really nice items. We planted a lot of chamomile which you can use fresh, or dry for tea. There’s a nice patch of flowering dill, and lots of other culinary herbs. The raspberry patch is a bit wild, but there are ripe raspberries in there if you look.
In the field today we were able to continue knocking back the prolific weeds. The tomatoes in the hoop house also got some trellising love and all the crops got irrigated. All in all it’s a good start to summer!
