My best guess for next week is arugula, kohlrabi, collards, lettuce, turnips and radishes. I’m not sure there’s enough kohlrabi for everyone as they were hit hard by the slugs (I think it was slugs) early in the year. Fennel is another possibility, although it’s still looking a bit small. Peas were supposed to be on the list and they may still make it but for some reason after a good first flush they haven’t really set anymore fruit, possibly due to the high temps a couple of weeks ago.
The sixth share is the final share in the spring season! We still have one summer share available and if there’s demand we might reassess and open up another share or two so if they sell out and you haven’t gotten one make sure to get on the waiting list. Summer is our only season where we have a Monday option for picking up, and the only season where the standard share is every week pick up.
Yesterday was a busy day on the farm with lots of trellising going up. We now have strings in place for all of the pole beans and tomatoes, as well as wire mesh panels for the cucumbers to climb. We also got a little weeding done, and some mowing. The weeds are growing fast this time of year with the long daylight hours and warmer nights. It’s definitely tricking keeping on top of them.
Our farm crew also grew by one this week! Clio is joining us for the summer and started Monday. I continue to be super appreciative of Tiiu and Allison who have both been at the farm for multiple seasons and make my running the farm much easier for it. Should be a good crew for this summer!
Also, despite Tiiu reminding me multiple times yesterday, I still failed to take a photo of the field before I left the farm. So today you get a photo of one of our water meters from yesterday. I have tons of these as we use them to record our water usage for every irrigation.
