Working and Learning on the Farm

We get a lot of inquiries from folks who want to get hands on, help out, and learn more about all the different aspects of farm. We’re excited to welcome the energy of enthusiastic and capable folks and to put that energy and enthusiasm to work. We want to be part of creating a great neighborhood and community not just by providing great food to our neighbors, but also by creating a space where people can learn hands on from what we’re doing, and from the farm itself.

Farm work is hard, but it’s can also be incredibly rewarding in so many ways. This is why we keep doing it even though by conventional standards the pay is so low.

Hands-on Learning and Volunteering

If you just want to spend some time pitching in and/or learn from doing at your own pace, have a chance to interact with the farm, the plants, the soil in an informal way, we have a you-pick garden which is also a great place to get your hands dirty with a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the particular day you show up, and there’s unlimited clean up, beautification and maintenance around the edges of the farm to be done. Weeding, pruning and other plant care, bed prep are all possible tasks. We have tools or bring your own favorites and we’ll point you to the possibilities and show you our methods. This is very informal and you can show up any time when we’re working at the farm and check in with Josh. From April through September we’re at the farm pretty much every Thursday that the weather allows from 9-6pm, and often on Mondays as well. Occasionally we may add another weekday or even a weekend one.

There’s a sign in sheet at the farm so if you do come please sign in and out.

Paid Work

If you have some experience, or are just very capable with manual labor, and are excited to learn our techniques by working with us in the field we’d love to plug you into some intermittent paid work. The farm is tiny, a part time project and getting smaller all the time so we’re experimenting with not having any regular employees this year and instead working with people as they come to us.

There are a limited number of paid hours available, essentially 1-2 people per day that we’re on the farm, although at certain peak times we may have more paid hours available. We compensate hours at $16.50/hr and pay by check or electronic transfer after being invoiced for hours worked, or by other mutually agreed upon method.

There is also a work trade option for CSA share members, paid at the same rate with payment being used as credit towards current or future CSA shares.

If you’d like to be considered for paid work please get in touch and we can schedule hours as needed.
